About Performing Life

Performing Life LLC is the place where individuals can dedicate time and space toward their life in performing. This is also the place where we dedicate that same deserved time and space toward performing our lives. Performing Life LLC therefore is an educational service geared toward individual and communal learning that focuses on the importance of caring for self, others, and space using performing arts as a vehicle for joy and success.

Teaching Philosophy.

My teaching practice revolves around guiding students through their own explorations of self and environment via performance art. Equipped with this knowledge, students are empowered to more deeply explore the performing arts and improve quality of life for the individual and the community.

The Beginning.

No matter how the student finds themselves in the Performing Life studio, we start with questions, and those questions may or may not have answers. All students will find themselves beginning or continuing their learning at the place they are comfortable starting. Who are you? Who inspires you? Who do you wish to perform for or with? What kind of performer do you wish to become? How do you wish to use your art to better your life or the life of others? What are your intentions for creating art? These are some questions that I hope to use as a vehicle to inspire authentic performance art that builds joy and inspiration.

The Process.

Art mirrors humanity. We have a goal, and we have to meet it. Logistically, how do we do it? How does our process mirror our inspiration, our needs, and the needs of our community? Sometimes we stumble accidentally into the answer, and we move forward. I prefer a method that can accompany excitement and joy that comes with exploring something new. We will engage in organically facilitated activities such as active listening, traveling out into our world to journey with intentionality. We will create, improvise, practice, and perform. We will write and we will develop awareness. We start with investigating what we know and venturing into what we don’t know. We will process our information through exploring and beginning to create, improvise, and riff off of collective ideas until something beautiful sprouts from the chaos. Through fostering celebratory moments and solace in failure, the process becomes an electrifying human experience. Over time, students learning in the Performing Life space will feel comfortable with processing new and existing art and celebrate the progress made.

The Journey.

What one might have expected would have been the product after the process, or the end after the beginning. It is my philosophy that humans engaging in life long learning of a performance art are always on a journey. I believe that artists should give themselves and receive constructive feedback from others, but that it is not the end. We are raging rivers, always moving, always changing, forever ebbing and flowing. Our art will continue to journey into depths unknown for as long as we live. Our products will have lasting effect, and we will reflect on the positives and improve upon the mishaps.
